Microsoft Surface
Microsoft Surface[.pptx (Size: 1.45 MB / Downloads: 16) What is Microsoft Surface? Project began in 2001 Introduced in 2007 A surface computing platform from Microsoft. Overview Microsoft Surface is a forthcoming Multi-touch product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination. Technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions, hand gestures, or physical objects. Surface is essentially a Windows Vista PC tucked inside a table, topped with a 30-inch reflective surface in a clear frame. How does it work? The Surface is not a touch-sensitive screen device… The screen itself is not electronic. The Surface uses multiple infrared cameras the screen/table top to sense objects, physical touch, etc. The Surface “recognizes objects based on shape or by using domino-style identification on the bottom of the objects.” This information is processed and displayed using “rear projection”. How surface works At a high level, surface uses five cameras to sense objects. This user input is then processed and the result is displayed on the surface using rear projection. Microsoft surface can also identify physical objects that have bar-code-like tags (Domino tag). Conclusion Surface is the new standard for interfacing a computer. Fundamentally the changes way we interact with the technology. Appeals to all ages. |
