MirrorLink is a device interoperability standard that provides integration between a smart phone and the information and entertainment system of a car. MirrorLink transforms smartphones into automotive application platforms where applications are hosted and run on the smartphone, while drivers and passengers interact with them through steering wheel controls, panel buttons and touch screens of the In-Vehicle Infotainment system (IVI).
MirrorLink uses a set of well-established technologies, such as IP, USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Real Time Protocol (RTP) and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). In addition, MirrorLink uses Virtual Network Computing (VNC) as the baseline protocol to display the user interface of smartphone applications on information system screens and to communicate user input to the mobile device.
MirrorLink turns the promise of the connected car into reality. Simply plug any MirrorLink compatible smartphone into any MirrorLink-enabled vehicle and take advantage of easier, more responsible access to navigation, music and phone applications while driving. Applications run on the smartphone, but you see them on the panel display and listen to the audio through the car speakers.
With MirrorLink, huge icons make applications easy to use and you can control navigation, music and more easily than turning on a turn signal. Designed for maximum interoperability between a wide range of cars and smartphones, MirrorLink makes connecting connected easier, safer and more enjoyable.
MirrorLink is the industry-leading standard for car-smartphone connectivity. It is now available on more cars and smartphones worldwide than any other method of connectivity.
