Industrial waste is waste produced by industrial activity that includes any material that becomes useless during a manufacturing process such as factories, industries, mills and mining operations. It has existed since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Some examples of industrial wastes are chemical solvents, paints, sandpaper, paper products, industrial by-products, metals, and radioactive waste.
Toxic waste, chemical waste, industrial solid waste and municipal solid waste are industrial waste designations. Wastewater treatment plants can treat some industrial wastes, that is those consisting of conventional pollutants such as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Industrial wastes containing toxic contaminants require specialised treatment systems.
In Thailand, the royal government of Thailand organises the roles in urban solid waste management (MSW) and industrial waste management, which are then divided into central government, regional government and local government. Each government is responsible for different tasks. The central government is responsible for stimulating regulation, policies and standards. Regional governments are responsible for coordinating central and local governments. Local governments are responsible for waste management in their governed area. Local governments do not dispose of the waste by themselves, but rather hire private companies that have been granted the right of the Department of Pollution Control (PCD) in Thailand. The major companies are the Bang poo Industrial Waste Management Center, General Environmental Conservation Company Limited (GENCO), SGS Thailand, Waste Management Siam LTD (WMS), and Better World Green Public Company Limited (BWG). These companies are responsible for the waste they have received from their customers before being thrown into the environment, buried or used for energy.
