MovieTickets.com is an online movie sales website founded by AMC Theaters and Hollywood.com in the year 2000 with National Amusements, CBS Corporation and Famous Players, all on board prior to launch. It is now a joint venture between Hollywood Media Corp, National Entertainment, Cineplex Entertainment, Marcus Theaters, Regal Entertainment Group, Viacom and Time Warner. MovieTickets.com offers movie schedules for all theaters and purchase tickets online for all National Amusements theaters and all Clearview Cinemas, among other smaller chains; such as the Mann Theaters in Los Angeles. In 2010, MovieTickets.com sold more than 16 million tickets for more than 200 exhibitors with 14,000 screens.
Providing ticket sales services to 250 movie theaters, MovieTickets.com represents more than 50 percent of the top 100 fundraising theaters in North America on any weekend.
In 2004, MovieTickets.com became the exclusive online ticket seller for Moviefone.com, having entered into a partnership in 2001 that reticulated their ticket offerings. Then, in mid-2005, MovieTickets.com established a ticket distribution relationship with PrintTixUSA consignment ticket distributor, adding 20 movie show companies to its ranks and increasing the total number of screens served nationwide to over of 10,000. Since then, however, MovieTickets.com has lost ground, losing exclusive rights to the AMC chain and Moviefone's telephone arm to compete with Fandango.
