PAPER BATTERY PAPER BATTERY.ppt (Size: 1.16 MB / Downloads: 131) INTRODUCTION Ultra-thin energy storage and production device. Formed by combining carbon nano tubes with a conventional sheet of cellulose based paper. Acts as both a high energy battery and super capacitor. Paper battery can be folded, cut or otherwise shaped for different applications. These batteries are non toxic, bio degradable and hence environmental friendly. DEVELOPMENT In August 2007, a research team at Rensselaer polytechnic Institute developed the paper battery. The researchers used ionic liquid to develop paper battery which contains no water. The lack of water allows the battery to function at higher temperatures such as 3000F. Drawbacks in Conventional Battery Electrolyte may be ionic solution or molten electrolyte or solid electrolyte. These batteries cannot be folded or cut. They are not flexible. Thicker in size. LITHIUM Soft, silver white metal belong to alkali metal group. Its atomic number is 3. Under standard conditions it is the lightest metal and least dense solid element. Highly reactive and flammable. Presently used in lithium and lithium ion batteries. Of course in paper batteries also. Electrical properties of nano tubes For a given (n, m) nanotube, If n=m, the nanotube is metallic (conductor). If n-m is a multiple of 3, then nanotube is semiconductor with very small band gap. Otherwise the nanotube is a moderate semiconductor. Metallic nanotubes can carry an electric current density of 4x109 A/cm2. This current density is 1000 times greater than that of copper. CELLULOSE Organic compound with formula (C6H10o5)n. For industrial use, cellulose is mainly obtained from wood pulp and cotton. Mainly used to manufacture paper. Since the battery is constructed by paper, its major constituent cellulose acts as an electrolyte. FINAL PRODUCT After construction of paper battery it consists of two components, Battery component. Super capacitor. These two components are separately implemented in conventional batteries. CONCLUSION In the earlier chapters we discussed mainly about construction of paper battery. After construction of paper battery we come to know that its size is similar to that of paper sheet. No toxic chemicals are used in battery. Bio degradable and environmental friendly. Because of its thinner size, it can replace all conventional batteries which we are presently using. |
