Portland Pozzolana Cement is a type of blended cement that is produced by intergrinding of OPC clinker together with gypsum and pozzolanic materials in certain proportions or grinding OPC clinker, gypsum and Pozzolanic materials separately and thoroughly mixing in certain proportions.
Pozzolana is a natural or artificial material containing silica in reactive form. It may be further discussed as a siliceous or siliceous and aluminous material which itself has little or no cementitious property but which in finely divided form and in the presence of moisture reacts chemically with calcium hydroxide at ordinary temperature to form compounds having cementitious properties . It is essential that the pozzolana be in a finely divided state, since only then the silica can be combined with calcium hydroxide (released by the moisturizing Portland cement) in the presence of water to form stable calcium silicates having cementitious properties. The commonly used pozzolanic materials are:
Portland Pozzolana Cement is ideal for the following construction:
+ Hydraulic structures.
+ Mass concrete works.
+ Marine structures.
+ Masonry and plaster mortars.
+ Under aggressive conditions.
+ All other applications where OPC is used.
+ The compressive strength of PPC according to the BIS code is currently equivalent to that of 33 degree OPC.
