Strong, fast-growing and widely distributed, bamboo is an attractive, but underdeveloped material that could prove valuable to the construction industry, according to UBC researcher Felix Böck. The project Structural Bamboo Products, a collaboration between research teams at UBC, MIT and Cambridge, aims to create high quality bamboo construction materials. UBC researchers are developing manufacturing techniques to help realize the potential of bamboo as a spearhead for sustainable development around the world.
According to studies, in about 5 years a bamboo grove can grow more building materials than the same size tree grove will produce in 40 years. Bamboo grows rapidly in a wide variety of conditions, and sometimes up to 60 cm per day. This amazing herb also produces 35% more oxygen compared to trees. It also absorbs more than 40% more carbon dioxide than trees, increasing our air quality. In fact Time Magazine has suggested planting bamboo as one of the best ways to prevent global warming.
With the sun decking of the wood that is one of the main causes of deforestation around the world it makes perfect sense to look for an alternative material. And if you are looking for a new material for decking then why not look for even better adapted material.
One of these great materials alternative to wood decking is composed of bamboo. Bamboo Warehouse uses a new composite material that is made by blending 60% natural bamboo fiber with 30% recycled HDPE plastic. This process results in a quality construction material that is strong, moisture resistant, extremely durable and low maintenance. The fabricated surface has a natural wood look, and can be used for decking, cladding, and any similar application. The mechanical process by which the cover is produced causes each board to have no knots, consisting of color, size and length. It is an extremely convenient, cost-effective and easy to work material. The composite bamboo decking has the aesthetic appeal of the wood but without the drawbacks of maintenance and durability.
The ecological cover of the bamboo store is water, scratch, slip, rot and resistant fungi. It is naturally resistant to termites and insects, making it perfect for swimming and swimming. This material is strong enough to require virtually no maintenance in our wide range of South African weather conditions. No sanding or typical wood maintenance is required. The material is stabilized against UV rays and will not crack or chip. The composite decking is a pleasure to clean and maintain, making it a sustainable choice and arguably the most attractive of far covered in the market.
