INTRODUCTION
A ENGINE DESIGNER AIMS TO DESIGN SUCH A ENGINE WHICH CAN ACHIEVE THE TWIN GOAL OF IMPROVED POWER OUTPUT AND MINIMUM EXHAUST.
Supercharging is the method of increasing the power output by supplying AIR higher than the pressure at which the engine naturally aspirates.
SUPERCHARGING
THE METHOD OF INCREASING THE INLET AIR DENSITY BY SUPPLYING AIR HIGHER THAN PRESSURE AT WHICH ENGINE NATURALLY ASPIRATES AIR FROM ATMOSPHERE BY MEANS OF BOOSTING DEVICE CALLED SUPERCHARGER.
IT IS FORCED INDUCTION METHOD. THE INCREASED MASS OF AIR WILL BE INDICATED WHICH WILL THEN BE COMPRESSED IN EACH CYLINDER. THIS AKES MORE OXYGEN AVAILABLE THAN CONVENTIONAL METHOD OF NATURAL ASPIRATION.
OBJECTS OF SUPERCHARGING
THE INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF AIR INDICATED PER UNIT TIME BY SUPERHARGING IS OBTAINED MAINLY TO BURN A GREATER AMOUNT OF FUEL IN A GIVEN ENGINE AND THUS INCREASE ITS POWER OUTPUT.
IT INCLUDES:
RACING CAR ENGINES
FOR A GIVEN WEIGHT AND BULK OF ENGINE LIKE MARINE, AIRCRAFT AND AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE
COMPENSATE POWER LOSS DUE TO ALTITUDE
OBTAIN MORE POWER FROM EXISTINT ENGINE.
