The brand 'Verka' derives its name from the first modern dairy established in the north of India by the government of Punjab in Amritsar in the town called Verka. As the district of Amritsar had the highest per capita milk production, this modern dairy was established by the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, which opened on March 23, 1963. Therefore, another dairy was established modern in Chandigarh to supply the need to supply milk to the next capital city together with the establishment of the most modern dairy of its time in Northern Diary in Ludhiana within the campus of the Agricultural University of Punjab. Both these modern dairies were established under the auspices of the Punjab Milk Development Corporation, which went ahead in the establishment of another modern dairy in Mohali. Since then, all dairy products are marketed with this 'Verka' brand.
As a result of the establishment of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1966 and the duplication of the three-level cooperative configuration in the dairy sector, the State Federation of Milk Producers of Punjab was established in 1973 as the most important dairy cooperative. who helped establish similar modern dairies in other districts of the state. Subsequently, eleven dairy unions arose in all the headwaters of the district, namely Patiala, Sangrur, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda, Ropar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Ferozepur and Faridkot. Later, in 1983, under the 'Operation Flood' initiative of the NDDB, all assets of Punjab Dairy Development Corporation were incorporated into the Federation and the predominant dairies in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Mohali became Cooperative Milk Unions. As part of this three-tier model, village-level dairy cooperatives began to establish themselves, resulting in 6300 cooperatives currently working under 11 Milk Unions that cover PAN Panjab.
Another infrastructure to support the dairy sector provided by the federation includes two livestock feed plants in Khanna and Ghania ke Bangar (Gurdaspur district) and a semen station in Khanna for the supply of quality semen to dairy producers. A forage seed processing plant is also operational in Bassi Pathana.
Recently, Milkfed has made a great effort to renew its brand strategy, boosting its flagship brand "Verka", which has facilitated new packaging and seeks modern customers. In its efforts to further strengthen the consumer connection, Verka has recently launched a series of new products that appeal to the taste buds of all ages.
Continuing with the legacy and spirit of serving the healthiest dairy products to its esteemed customers, the brand has increased by adopting the new label "Phulo Phalo, Pure Khao Pio", which means its commitment to offer only the best to its customers. .
Verka is a prominent player in the organized milk-bag segment in Punjab and adjacent areas, however, the organization is not far from innovative spirits. Verka has fully entered into other segments as well, whether it's her underwear, candy or exotic ice cream. Adding to the consumption range, Verka also provides bulk packages for milk, paneer, dahi, etc., which makes it a leading provider of the HoReCa segment, thus meeting the daily needs of the institutions.
