There are two types of pavements based on design considerations, ie flexible pavement and rigid pavement. The difference between flexible and rigid pavements is based on the way loads are distributed to the subgrade. Before differentiating between flexible pavements and rigid pavements, it is best to know about them first.
Rigid flooring:
A rigid pavement is constructed of concrete or cement concrete plates. Concrete concrete roads are in the category of semi-rigid pavements.
The rigid pavement design is based on providing a structural slab of cementitious concrete of sufficient strength to withstand traffic loads. The rigid pavement has rigidity and high modulus of elasticity to distribute the load on a relatively wide surface of soil.
The minor variations in the resistance of the subrasidad have little influence in the structural capacity of a rigid pavement. In the design of a rigid pavement, the flexural strength of the concrete is the main factor and not the resistance of the subgrade. Because of this property of the pavement, when the substrate is deflected under rigid pavement, the concrete slab is capable of bridging the localized faults and inadequate support areas of the subrasidad due to the action of the slab.
