There is always a peculiarity in the provision of speed switches on the roads. In general, circuit breakers are made on the road after a fatal accident due to public demand. But then crushers or humps are also dangerous for speeding vehicles especially two wheels. Accidents can occur due to the switches as some of two-wheel speeding may lose control due to pull on the humps. Fatal or non-fatal, the public begins to demand the removal of the switches.
A district court of the Kerala Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Director General of Police (DGP) to instruct all police stations to remove all rotation devices located on national highways, state roads and other roads of the state.
The judge who is part of the acting judge C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justicia P.S. Gopinathan also directed the DGP to stop the practice of putting speed switches on the road to avoid the speeding of vehicles. The court was prima facie of opinion that the speed-breaker tables were only causing obstruction to smooth traffic and could even cause accidents. Police must adopt other control techniques to control speeding and prevent accidents, the Bank noted.
