The Sailfish OS (also referred to as SailfishOS or abbreviated to SFOS) is a general purpose that Linux commonly uses as the mobile operating system that combines the Linux kernel for a particular use of the hardware platform. Jolla or an open source UI, and other third party components.
Sailfish is being developed by Jolla, the Sailfish and Mer project communities, corporate members of the Sailfish Alliance and several members of the open community. Members of the Sailfish community make development requests and decide development priorities by voting. The Mer Mer project receives contributions from Jolla and its community, and Mer is the source of middleware for Jolla, thus maintaining the continued development and compatibility of all Mer-based projects.
The operating system is shipped with the smartphone and the Jolla tablet (the latter has been discontinued) and other operating system licensors. More or less unofficially, the operating system is ported by community enthusiasts to third-party mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
