The National Organization for Organ and Tissue Transplants (NOTTO) is a national organization established at the General Directorate of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India located on the 4th and 5th floor of the Institute of Pathology (ICMR) of Safdarjung Hospital New Delhi. It has the following two divisions:
o "National network for the disposal and storage of human organs and tissues"
o "National Center for Bio-materials".
"National Network for the Elimination and Storage of Organs and Human Tissues"
This has been ordered in accordance with the 2011 Human Organ Transplantation (Amendment) Act. The network will initially be established for Delhi and will be gradually expanded to include other States and Regions of the country. Therefore, this division of NOTTO is the nodal nodes agency for Delhi and a network for the Allocation and Distribution of Organs and Tissues in Delhi will be established.
Function / Activities
The division of the National Network of NOTTO would function as the main center of all coordination and networking activities for the acquisition and distribution of Organs and Tissues and the registration of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation in the country. The following activities will be carried out to facilitate the transplantation of organs in the safest manner in the shortest time possible and to collect data to develop and publish the national registry:
At the national level:
o Establish policy guidelines and protocols for various functions.
o Network with similar regional and state organizations.
o All registration data for States and Regions will be compiled and published.
o Build awareness, promote organ donation and transplant activities.
o Coordination from the acquisition of organs and tissues to transplantation when an organ is assigned outside the region.
o Dissemination of information to all organizations, hospitals and individuals involved.
o Monitoring of transplantation activities in the Regions and States and maintenance of data banks in this regard.
o Assist in data management for organ transplantation surveillance and organ transplantation and organ donor registration.
o Advice on legal and non-legal aspects of donation and transplantation.
o Coordinate and organize trainings for several cadres of workers.
