The former Maharashtra State Electricity Board was looking after Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electricity in the State of Maharashtra forbidding Mumbai. But after the enactment of the Electricity Law of 2003, MSEB was restructured into 4 Companies namely. (Mahavataran), Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd. (Mahagenco) and Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd. (Mahatransco) on June 6, 2005. Mahavitaran distributes electricity to consumers throughout the state except Mumbai.
Consumer Base:
Mahavitaran supplies electricity to an astonishing 2.20 Crore consumers through categories in Maharashtra. There are approximately 1, 62, 61,420 residential, 36, 67,883 agricultural, 15, 69,043 commercial 4, 38,366 industrial and 1,29,661 other consumers in Mahavitaran.
Release of cargo Free State:
As stated by the state government, Maharashtra has already become the unloading of free freight in December 2012. During that time, it was Mahavitaran's responsibility to make available the necessary amount of state power. Consequently, measures such as long-term and short-term planning were carried out under the guidance and active support of the State Government. In the Long-Term Planning, the Capacity Building work was carried out. In the short term planning; the work on Demand Management was started. To reduce the time of load shedding, Mahavitaran implemented two schemes in Demand Management, namely the Single Phase Scheme and the separation of the Gaothan feeders. In the separation scheme of the Gaothan feeder, the agricultural feeders were carved from the mixed feeders. With this, Mahavitaran could stagger the demand of 2500-3000 MW that helped in the management of the load and in the strengthening of the infrastructure and the reduction of the losses.
At present, 85% of the State is free of spills and only 15% of the State is under load dumping. In fact, Mahavitaran is able to meet the energy demand of this area of 15%, but these are the areas where distribution and commercial losses are very high and collection efficiency is lower. As part of policy 2 and bring consumer discipline; Mahavitaran purposely implemented this cargo shedding policy.
