Corporation Bank, headquartered here, has taken steps to minimise the attrition rate at the bottom level. It has recruited candidates, who have passed “ten plus two” (pre-university or its equivalent course). Disclosing this while delivering the T.A. Pai Endowment lecture on “Managing human resource in banking sector” at Mangalagangotri, Mangalore University, B. Sambamurthy, chairman and managing director of the bank, said that the bank’s step is not a permanent solution to plug the attrition rate at the bottom-level. But it might help to some extent. In banks, post-graduates and graduates, who were at the bottom-level, had started quitting for better opportunities, he said. At this juncture recruiting “ten plus two” candidates might enable the bank to retain the staff at the bottom level. Recruiting proper candidates, imparting proper training and ensuring development of the organisation, providing compensation and retaining the talents are the challenges before the Human Resource Department of any company or organisation, Mr. Sambamurthy said. He said that introduction of technology in the banking sector was believed to have resulted in unemployment and created surplus staff. |
