system utilities & Unix Commands.
AIM:
Study & Implementation of system utilities
OBJECTIVE:
To study diff. commands used in UNIX OS.
RELEVANCE:
In UNIX Operating system everything based on commands .
THEORY:-
Following are some command generally used:-
General Utility:-
1) date :- display date & time of system.
2) cal:- Display calendar
3) who:- display no. of user currently logged in to system
4) who am i:- Display user who ask this question.
5) finger:- Display information about user currently logged on.
6) man :- Display help about command given as argument.
7) wc:- word count ,display no. of line ,words & char. In file given as argument.
8) pwd :-Display the current working dir.
9) cat :- it create file(>), append in file (>>),display file.
10) pipe ( | ) :- give output of one command to another command.
11) tee:-Used as filter to capture the data going throw pipe & display it on terminal.
e.g $ ls | tee /tmp/ls.save | wc –l
12) useradd :- This command is used to add user to system (but require root permission)
13) passwd :-Used to allocate password to added user
14) userdel:- used to delete the user.
15) addgroup:- Used to add group to system.
16) usermod :- This command is used to add particular user in particular dir.
Conclusion:
Thus we have seen the various system utilities of UNIX Operating System.
