tachometer
The tachometer is an instrument which measures revolutions per second of rotary motion. It is used extensively for testing, estimation and control. It forms a vital part of control systems where speed is a critical parameter. Hence it is required that the system be compact, economical, reliable, durable as well as accurate.
Many a times a compromise is required amongst all these parameters to obtain an optimum system. Existing versions of compact tachometers are usually highly priced and not flexible with user demand. With the use of a simple microcontroller based circuit, we can see that the system can be made compact, economical, reliable, durable and accurate. Furthermore it is very versatile. By changing and implementing different versions of the code, we can obtain a multitude of functions and even make it specific to the customer’s use. For example the code can be changed to operate it as a speedometer, frequency meter, synchronizer etc.
