A flipchart is a stationery item consisting of a large sheet of paper. It is typically fixed to the top edge of a chalkboard, typically supported by a tripod or a four-legged easel. Such cards are commonly used for presentations. The first known patent of a flipchart is May 8, 1913. Flipcharts have been in use since the early 1900s, the earliest recorded use of a flipchart is a 1912 photo by John Henry Patterson (1844-1922), CEO of NCR while heading to the 100 Point Club standing next to a pair of flip charts on wheels. The flipchart we know (on a small blackboard) was invented by Peter Kent in the seventies. Peter Kent was the founder and CEO of visual communications group Nobo plc and is believed to be the first company to place large pieces of paper on whiteboards rather than other materials.
