Vapour Absorption System
A Vapour Sbsorption System.doc (Size: 90.5 KB / Downloads: 42) INTRODUCTION: The vapour absorption system uses heat energy instead of mechanical energy in order to change the condition of the refrigerant required for the operation of refrigeration cycle. In the vapour absorption system, the compressor is replaced by an absorber, a pump, a generator and a pressure reducing valve, the vapour refrigerant from the evaporator is drawn in to the absorber where it is absorbed by the weak solution of the refrigerant forming a strong solution. This strong solution is pumped to the generator where it is heated by some external source like steam or heating oil. During the heating process the vapour refrigerant is driven off by the solution and enters in to the condenser where it is liquefied. The liquid refrigerant then flows in to the evaporator, thereby completing the cycle. MODELLING SINGLE EFFECT ABSORPTION SYSTEM The vapour absorption refrigeration system, having different components and state point. The absorbent refrigerant pair is reduced at an elevated temperature and a part of the refrigerant is vaporizes and condense in the condenser. The condensate, after getting sub cooled in the pre cooler, is throttled through TV1 to the evaporator. The refrigerant vaporizes in the evaporator and thus cooling is produced. The sub cooling in the pre cooler improves the performance of the system. The remaining mixture solution from the generator that is weak in the refrigerant is separated and brought to the absorber through the pre heater and the throttle valve TV2. The solution in the absorber maintained at the low temperature and pressure absorbs the refrigerant vapour from the evaporator and thus the cycle gets completed. SOURCE OF ENERGY A major part of our energy requirements today, is met by burning fuels, even the versatile electric energy is produced mainly by burning fuels like coal or natural gas. But the continuously increasing demand of energy, is posing great threat on the society. However, to overcome this problem, attention should be paid on the use of energy from the waste organic materials, which produce gas like methane, ethane, carbon dioxide etc. These gases generated out of the biomass and commonly known as biogas have very high potential of producing heat energy. Biogas energy is good source, especially for agro based rural areas and places where electricity failure is frequent. Also, natural and LPG which are available, especially in urban areas for cooking and also for running the automobile engines, have high calorific value. All such gases may be fired in the heat operated system. Thus, the useful heat available from biogas, LPG and CNG has been estimated and their economic analysis carried out for application in the vapour absorption system. LIQUIFIED PETROLEUM GAS The liquefied gas which is generally a mixture of a number of gases such as propane, butane, and ethane can be obtained gas service agencies through registered connection. For a typical LPG, its composition was: propane=6.88%, iso-butane=16.54%, n-butane=76.58%. Average molecular weight for the given composition of the various constitutes in LPG comes out to be 57.2kg/kg-mol.
