Abstracts: Gujarat Technological University has been allotted an important and prestigious project of “Vishwakarma Yojana Phase II” by the Government of Gujarat for the year 2012-13.The first phase project aimed to study the present status and conduct the techno-economic survey. It covered 85 villages in 25 district of the state. The major terms of reference were availability of basic and public amenities, essential commodities, and other infrastructural facilities. The outcome has been presented in the form of a report on adequacy of the available resource with reference to population of the village and growth of the area. Along with the consultation of Local revenue authorities, Taluka Development Officer (TDO) and District Development Officer (DDO), the future need of the village were assessed for future population and village expansion, surrounding Town/Taluka. Vishwakarma Yojana is one of the approaches to reduce urban city Pressure and lower the migration rate by developing village with a ‘rural soul’ but with all urban amenities that a city may have. The developmental work in villages that could under-take as per the need of the village in particular includes Physical, Social and Renewable Infrastructure Facilities. It is also proposed to frame “Vishwakarma Yojana” to provide the benefit of real work experience to engineering students of Gujarat Technological University and simultaneously apply their technical knowledge in the development of infrastructure in rural development.
