10EC201 - Electron Devices

Electron Devices:

A device depending on the principles of electronics and using the manipulation of electron flow for its operation is known as Electron Devices.
Examples :
Electron Devices: PN Diode, Transistor, etc.,
Electronic Systems: Motherboard (Integrated of many electron Devices)

Electron Ballistics

A branch of electronics that deals with the motions of free electrons or other electric particles in electric or magnetic fields.

Charge Particle:

Electric charge:
It is a physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force when near other electrically charged matter.
Electric charges are positive (+) and negative (-).
+ & + and - & - = always Repel each other
+ & - and - & + = always Attract each other
Subatomic Particle:
They are the particles smaller than an atom.
Ion:
Total No. of electrons & Protons are ≠ in atoms or Molecules

Classical and Wave-Mechanical Models of the
Electron:

The electron as tiny particle possessing a definite charge and mass is referred to as a classical model.
Subject to electric, magnetic, or gravitational fields, it experiences force and accelerated.
Using Newton’s Law forces acting on the particle are known.
Classical model to study Electron ballistics.
For small scale system, Newtonian Mechanics which do agree with experiment.
