Introduction & history(short)

A Touch Screen is an electronic visual display that can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area.
In 1971, a "touch sensor" was developed by Doctor Sam Hurst (founder of Elographics).
THY ELOGRAPH is an electric graphic touch sensor that was developed by Dr. Sam Hurst. Though it was not transparent like modern day technology, it was a major milestone in the touch screen technology .
And in the year in 1974, the first true touch surface came on the scene developed by Sam Hurst and Elographics. In 1977.

Types of touch screens

The resistive system consists of a normal glass panel that is covered with a conductive and a resistive metallic layer. These two layers are held apart by spacers, and a scratch-resistant layer is placed on top of the whole setup. An electrical current runs through the two layers while the monitor is operational. When a user touches the screen, the two layers make contact in that exact spot. The change in the electrical field is noted and the coordinates of the point of contact are calculated. Once the coordinates are known, a special driver translates the signal that an OS can understand and the touch works

Popularity & future expectations

Nowadays Touch screen technology is very common and popular ,from that LCD monitor on our desk to the smart phone in our pocket are using touch technology. Therefore, no doubt it is very popular. And are used in almost everything.

FUTURE EXPECTAIONS:

The future of touch surface is touch screen video projectors.
Touch Screens that Curve, Bend, and Even Touch Back
New technology could let the screens on future devices wrap around corners, act like paper, and sense touch on the rear as well as the front.

Drawbacks

The screen has to be big enough to be able to touch the buttons without missing.
In direct most of the time very difficult to read the screen.
The screens will get very dirty.
They usually cost more than ordinary devices.
Venerable(hard to take care of) thy screen breaks with a small impact .
