TOUCH SCREEN TECHNOLOGY

[attachment=65557]

Introduction

What is touch screen?
A touch screen is an electronic visual display that can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The term generally refers to touching the display of the device with a finger or hand.
The touch screen interface functions of the mouse and is being used in a wide variety of applications to improve human computer interaction.

Types of touch screen

Resistive Touch screen
A resistive touch screen is composed of multiple layers, which are separated by thin spaces.
A resistive touch screen responds when pressure is applied to its surface, causing the layers to touch.
This means that a resistive touch screen requires more pressure than a capacitive touch screen.

Capacitive touch screen

Capacitive touch screens are those that respond to the electrical properties of the human body. This means that they can be controlled by a light touch, and don't require the user to exert heavy pressure on the screen.
Capacitive touch screens also are the only ones capable of multi-touch, which allows the display to recognize more than one point of contact

Surface Acoustic Wave(SAW)

The SAW technology based on two Transducers(transmitting & receiving)placed for both of X & Y axis on the touch panel and SAW has also placed on a glass, called Reflector.
It provides super images , resolution and higher light.
It has highest durability factor.
The touch screen is must touched by finger, gloved hand or soft tip stylus.
It is used in ATM, Amusement parks , Banking and financial application.

Conclusion & Future scope

The touch screen interface is easier to use than other input devices.

Currently the touch screens in the laptops mostly have single touch technology. This means that the computer understands instructions a single touch at a time. Some laptops do include multi-touch capabilities; however, these capabilities are very limited and not really useful.

Touchscreens can suffer from the problem of fingerprints on the display. This can be mitigated by the use of materials with optical coatings designed to reduce the visible effects of fingerprint oils, such as the oleo phobic coating used in the I Phone 3G, or by reducing skin contact by using a fingernail or stylus.

The future of touch surface is touch screen video projectors. In a
restaurant, for e.g., you can place your order using the surface
of the table as the touch interface, instead of using a touch screen laptop.

The ability to transform any surface in a
Touch screen means lower costs, making the technology more
cost effective
