Basic Art movements

[attachment=66601]

Abstract

This report consists of the basic art movements of the design. Here, I explain about minimalism, impressionism, expressionism and finally cubism.

Minimalism

This is one of the most significant art movements which are most popular in 20th century and earliest 21st century. It is used in lot of areas like hardware designs, cars, films, sports etc. it mainly relates to the minimizing the material used. This minimalism was mainly influenced by three things, they are
• De stijl art movements which mainly discussed about the reducing design to its essential form. It includes the usage of vertical lines, horizontal lines, rectangular forms, primary colors etc.
• Van der rohe also influenced the minimalism by designing the structures with modern materials like steel, glass, frame works and lot of space.
• Third one is traditional Japanese design. It mainly includes adding the things which were needed and removing the remaining things.
If we apply this minimalism to the web design application, the key aspects are;
• Choose simple fonts with high level of readability.
• Our eyes must be familiar to this pattern and data to be placed in a lined manner.
• Increase the contrast so that it will increase the readability of the user.
• Colors used in the design also to be strain less to the eyes

Impressionism

Impressionism is the reaction against academic, traditional styles of the past. Its main intention is to elevate the traditional styles by using some effects. Suppose if we take mobile industry, in which they would like to impress the customer by following a different way instead of traditional way.
If we consider a painter, he wants to elevate the old style of painting by using the textured surfaces, broken brushes and bright colors etc. here they were not concerned with expression.

Cubism

it is relates to product design in which each product is based on some geometrical forms like cube, cuboid and sphere. With this design, our product seems to be different than the traditional design. By using these three geometrical forms, if we design any structure or objet it will be odd. Similarly, if we design by using these forms, we can improve each part before using so that accuracy will be good.
For example, if we take any building which needs some different shape in front of the house, then if we made that shape by using cubism, it will be definitely odd when compared to traditional design.

Conclusion

In this way, we can explain each art movement and we can apply that concept to different products like an optical mouse shown above. By analyzing that product, we can say which movement affects that product.
