The Project is regarding the Creation of Physical Standby Database. The Database is created on Oracle 10g. Due to large transactions and large number of user sessions, they tend to face the problem of poor response time and low throughput time. So, their queries get delayed. Also, they want to have the security from database Crash and Disaster Recovery. Standby Database serves the following purposes as under mentioned: Recovery from disaster of human error: For Disaster Recovery, in case the primary database fails (due to hardware or software failure), the users can be redirected to the standby database with very little downtime, less than 20 minutes for a well configured system. By having a standby database that is purposely a few hours behind the primary database, you have the ability to recover from human errors when data is accidentally deleted from your primary database. Reporting: By replicating your primary database to a standby database, you free the primary database from the heavy load involved in running large reports. Shadow Environment: If we need to do problem inves
Oracle Data Guard is the management, monitoring and automation software infrastructure that creates, maintains and monitors one or more Standby Database to protect enterprise data from failures, disasters, errors and corruptions.

Data Guard maintains Standby Databases as transitionally consistent copies of the production database. These Standby Databases can be located at remote disaster recovery sites thousands of miles away from the production data centres, or they may be located in the same city, same campus or even in the same building. If the production database becomes unavailable because of a planned or an unplanned outage, Data Guard can switch any Standby Database to the production role, thus minimizing the downtime associated with the outrage and preventing any data loss.

Available as a feature of Enterprise Edition of Oracle Database, Data Guard can be used in combination with other Oracle High Availability (HA) solutions such as Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Recovery Manager (RMAN), to provide a high level of data protection and data availability that is unprecedented in the industry.
