ADVANCED DENSITY BASED TRAFFIC LIGHT CONTROLLER SEMINAR REPORT

ABSTRACT

Traditional traffic light control system is based on Microcontrollers, which are fixed cycle controllers, difficult to adapt with various traffic conditions and it is not upgradable. The existing traffic light control systems are having equal time intervals for all conditions, i.e., peak and off-peak times. Due to this, road users may spend more time during off-peak hours also. During emergency vehicles are arrival, the existing system is inefficient to allow that vehicles. And people may not be safe at the intersection when they are crossing the junction. These drawbacks must be improved for increased road users in the modern cities. So the efficient traffic light controller system is needed to achieve traffic flow with different time slots. For this, different approach called Dynamic/density Traffic Light Controller (DTLC) is used in this project. DTLC means the counter value should vary depending on the density of the traffic. Also the road with heavy traffic must be given priority over the others.

In this project we are implementing advanced density based traffic light controller.
In this project we are using 6 IR sensors at each side for comparing the density of the traffic. After (comparing the density of the traffic) four side densities. After clear the traffic at which side the traffic is high. After clearing the highest density path again compare the remaining three sides and again clear the traffic at which it is high. After clearing the highest density path again compare the remaining three sides and again clear the traffic at which side is the traffic high. This process is going on for clearing the traffic at all sides. Now a days the traffic control system is based on fixed time. In this system most of the time is wasted by unequal traffic density at each side. But by this density based traffic light controller system the highest density path is cleared off/first. Hence most of the time is saved.
