AIRBORNE INTERNET

INTRODUCTION

Airborne Internet is a private, secure and reliable peer-to-peer aircraft
communications network that uses the same technology as the commercial Internet. It is
an implementation which connects aircraft to a ground-based Internet access node,
including the information which is passed across this communication link. It provides
airborne access to wealth of Internet information and resources. It is convenient and has
several uses like flight planning, en route reservations, travel arrangements. It is useful
in providing the information about weather, surrounding airspace environment and for
aircraft-to-aircraft communications. The security applications include flight
tracking/deviation monitoring, in-flight video monitoring, cockpit voice/video recording

1.Dial-up Connection

Dial-up Connection is a form of Internet access that uses the facilities of the
public switched telephone network (PSTN) to establish a dialed connection to an Internet
service provider (ISP) via telephone lines. The user's computer or router uses an attached
modem to encode and decode Internet Protocol packets and control information into and
from analogue audio frequency signals, respectively.
2.2.Broadband Connection

Broadband Connection is a high-speed Internet connection using DSL,

cable,
wireless, fiber optic or satellite means of transmitting data. The terms broadband usually
refers to a high-speed network connection with data speeds in excess of 128 kilobits per
second.
Need for speed has made us move on from dial-up connections to broadband connection.
However, the luxury of broadband connection is available only in the vicinity of ISPs.
This led to the evolution of Satellite Internet.

CONCLUSION
18AIRBORNE INTERNET

Thus this airborne internet technology has a wide range of utilities in the field of
aviation services like aircraft monitoring and air traffic management, weather information
etc., and also provides an opportunity for the passengers to access the internet at very
high altitudes that is, in the aeroplanes and other conventional services.
This new technology, has already begun creating splashes in the industry.
With the advent of Airborne Internet the remote sections of the world may get into main
frame development.
However, the technology still has to undergo testing of potential network
performance.Facility to increase the antennas to control the traffic needs to be provided.
Economic feasibility of the project also needs a review.
Thus it is a further new trend in this mobile world which is establishing the
connectivity by building network in the air.
