During my six month industrial training i worked over major project and gain enormous knowledge of practical world of engineering. The project manages the network connectivity of a college campus providing security,easy access,admin authentication etc. Network connectivity is done keeping in mind the requirements of campus faculty and students.Based on following: 1.purpose of each section of college 2.communication criteria 3.permissions granted to each section 4.security
we have worked on how to manage network connectivity in a college campus. The technologies used are: OSPF,DHCP,ACLs,VLANs In a college campus we have following sections:
§ Admin block room
§ Student placement office
§ Staff training room
§ Staff room
§ Labs
§ And one is local server
Connectivity between these sections is based on:
§ Purpose of each section
§ Permissions granted to each section
§ Communication crieteria
§ Security
1. DHCP is used to assign IPs to devices used (routers, switches etc.)
2.Using OSPF connectivity between each section is done.
3.VLANs are created to provide network security and to reduce network overhead.
4.Permissions to access server, printer, etc. are granted using ACLs.
5.Each section is secured, given login password.
6.Spanning tree protocols are used to overcome broadcast storm and eliminate redundant links to avoid multiple frame copies.
