Abstracts: Pedestrians, bicyclists and non-motorized rickshaw are the most critical elements in mixed traffic. The needs of pedestrians and slow moving vehicles like bicycles and rickshaw have been ignored in conventional planning strategies. It is possible to create pedestrians, bicycle and public transport friendly urban roads without increasing the right of way of existing arterial roads in most cities. The guiding principle of such a design meeting a needs of pedestrian, bicyclist and public transport commuters in that order. These benefit all road users including motorized transport. By creating segregated bicycle lanes and redesigning intersections conflicts between motorized traffic and bicyclist can be reduced substantially leading to a sharp decrease in the number of accident and facilities for bicyclist and motorized two-wheelers.
