Abstracts: Surat, a financial capital of Gujarat has grown itself within the domain of admiration and criticism since long time. One aspect of city indicates the best urban growth while another view points out towards the disastrous potential due to natural calamities among which flood is at prime consideration due to its frequent occurrence. The noticeable causes for the flood might have been analyzed in different ways but it is very certain fact that extent of flood and its impact to the urban area have always raised various issues to the technocrats, local authorities and researchers. An attempt has been made to flash on disastrous floods in Surat city during last decade. The Selected study area is highly affected by the flood and it is necessary to develop flood reduction plan for the study area which helps to minimize the effect of such a devastating disaster in future. Mapping of such affected area and categorized of severity of flood various spatial units are useful as well as focussing task in decision making process to find reduction strategies including enhancing drainage facility, diversion of river water, determination of location points for ground water recharge, etc
