Abstracts: Friction stir welding is a new solid-state joining technique invented at The Welding Institute in 1991.This is an emerging metal joining technique that can provide localized modification and control of microstructures in near-surface layers of processed metallic components. FSW is one of the solid-state welding processes. FSW is used widely in aerospace, railway and ship building industries. Many similar and dissimilar materials can be joined by FSW. As compared to the conventional welding methods, FSW consumes considerably less energy. No consumables fluxes and shielding gases are used, so we can say that this is an eco-friendly welding process.
