Abstracts: This project is about improving productivity of fabrication process of heavy vessel. In fabrication process, tacking is the main determining process of the accuracy of the welding. In heavy components, tacking remains very time consuming and not so accurate process. So, in this project, fixtures are designed for two tacking processes. A step by step changes and improvements lead to final design of the fixtures. For tacking of nozzle over swage part a cylindrical fixture is designed. All the requirements of the fixture were noted down and at last it was checked if all those are fulfilled by the designed fixture. For tacking of blades over the agitator shaft another fixture was designed. The experience of designing these fixtures says that fixture design procedure is not quiet helpful in welding fixtures. The famous saying “Need is the mother of invention” hold perfectly true in case of welding fixture design. So, finally a more convenient marking system is developed instead of fixture. Also, the lesson from the project is solution always does not lie in constrained box. A far better solution can also be exist out of the box
