Abstracts: n many industries which have cold storage for various products like milk, medicines, alcohol, candy etc. faces problems like high power consumption, maintaining humidity level is difficult. These problems leads to low quality of product which affects the company. The conventional system which they use contains heating coil to dehumidify the air which is entering the cold storage room. The best alternative for this is the desiccant system on which we are pursuing the work. The desiccant system in which the dehumidification is done with the help of dehumidifier. This dehumidifier is different from that of the conventional one. The dehumidifier in desiccant system used the desiccant material for dehumidification of air. The characteristic of the desiccant material is that it can absorb and adsorb the moisture where absorption is chemical process and adsorption is mechanical process. We have studied both the desiccant and conventional system and have compared the results of the same. Then we find that the desiccant system uses motor and fan load which are not in case of conventional system but power consumption is very low. The power consumed by heating coil is more. In desiccant system there is no heating coil. The energy saving compared to conventional system more. Some comparison of desiccant system and conventional system considering parameters like cooling load, heating load, motor load, fan load and efficiency are made so as to get better result as possible. After thorough comparisons and statistical analysis, we have concluded on the use of Desiccant system is best and optimum solution to the addressed problems. As a part of our final semester’s project work, we plan to fabricate the system.
