Abstracts: Rain water harvesting is enjoying a renaissance of sorts in the world, but it traces its history to biblical times. Due to rapid urbanization, infiltration of rain water into the sub-soil has decreased drastically and recharging of ground water has diminished. Surface water is inadequate to meet our demand and we have to depend on ground water. The principle of collecting and using precipitation from a catchments surface is commonly known as rain water harvesting. The storage of rain water on surface is a traditional techniques and structures used were underground tanks, ponds, check dams, weirs etc. In this project an attempt will be made to store the rain water and to use it for flushing and gardening purpose. The study area for this project is Shantivanparisar situated at Rajkot city. For this meteorological data, topography of the area, demand of water and the collected and used for the design of storage tank. Rain water will be collected from the terrace of the houses and will be stored which will eventually be used for flushing and gardening. By the end of this project it is aimed that maximum rainwater will be collected and store thus decreasing the demand of water and will be beneficially used for society.
