Abstracts: This thesis discusses about the experimental analysis and effect of two refrigerants on the performance of a refrigeration system. The refrigerants used are R-12 (Dichloro-difluoro– methane (CCl2F2)) and R-l34a (Tetra-fluoro ethane (CHF2CF2)).The test rig prepared for the analysis consists of a 165-litre capacity refrigerator which is accompanied with the refrigeration system (i.e. compressor, condenser, expansion device and evaporator), digital temperature thermometers, pressure gauges and energy meter for measuring the COP (Coefficient of Performance) of the system. The experimental results show that the refrigerant R-134a operates with greater COP than that of R-12. The results also show the theoretical and practical COP calculation for both of the refrigerants which is again better in case of R-134a.
