Abstracts: A water supply scheme includes an assembly of various tasks. The first step is to take in account the water quality parameters of the water is to be collected for its transmission to the proposed site. Then begins the survey for preparing alignment of gravity line, leaded by various surveys leading to excavation work. A raw water reservoir i.e an intake sump is prepared at PCPIR-Dahej for collection of water before transmission. Depending upon the design criteria and choice of client, type of pipe is selected. At certain intervals of gravity mains pumping stations are provided. The installing and connecting pipes is not done unless required tests are not conducted, for avoiding leakage of water. There is seepage problem at intake sump/ reservoir site due to which loss of water is noticed . To avoid seepage lining of High Density Polyethylene sheet of 250microns and a layer of precast blocks of size 350 x 450 x 75mm is provided. The initiative of our team is to deeply observe the methodology of 50 MGD water supply scheme for PCPIR Dahej and bring in some improvement/ innovation in material and/or methodology which may be beneficial to the client i.e GIDC, Bharuch.
