Abstracts: Every country in this century is towards the process of urbanization due to the fast growing economy. Due to this urbanization there is a huge increase in the vehicular population in urban areas. Due to absence of good convenient and efficient public transport system in urban areas, there is an increase in the usage of personal vehicles like scooters and cars. Rail traffic and air traffic can cause serious noise nuisance in urban and suburban areas. Surat is the fifth most populous city and seventh largest metropolitan area of India. It has one of the highest GDP growth rates in India at 11.5% as of 2009. It is estimated that by 2020 Surat will be the largest city in Gujarat state. The no. of vehicles registered in Surat is 1510160. These vehicles produce lots of noise in the city. So it has needed to study the extent of noise pollution. In this project work, noise generated due to urban traffic at Athwagate intersections of Surat city, social survey of people, audiometric analysis of the affected people and effects of noise on human health and people’s attitude towards noise pollution through questionnaire will be studied.
