flexural behavior of axially and laterally loaded piles under liquefied soil conditions
The pseudostatic analysis was performed taking into account the combined effect of the axial load and the lateral load. Based on the available literature, the effect of degradation on the substrate reaction module due to soil liquefaction has been incorporated into the analysis. Using MATLAB, a computer program has been developed for it and it has been found that the predicted behavior of the stack is in good agreement with the values observed in the field. Parametric studies have been performed to evaluate the influence of pile and soil properties on the flexural response of the piles during liquefaction. The results obtained have been presented in graphs of dimensionless design for diverse conditions of fixation of the head of the pile and conditions of the terrain. The present study highlights the importance of considering the axial load of the superstructure together with the forces of inertia of the superstructure and the kinematic forces of the liquefied soil in the design of piles foundations in liquefiable areas. The importance of soil densification in the liquefiable areas and the provision of a suitable unstacked top cover in the appreciable reduction of the destruction has been verified.
