Abstracts: The project is undertaken as Industry Defined Problem (IDP) at Umiya Ice Factory located at Khatodara Industrial estate, Surat. The ice factory is mainly producing ice block of different sizes i.e. 25 kg, 50 kg, 100 kg and 150 kg. The factory has two refrigeration units. One unit is working on R-717 (ammonia) refrigerant since 1992 and other unit is under experimental work on R-22 (Chlorodifluoromethane) refrigerant. At present, Ice factory uses conventional method for making ice blocks by using ammonia refrigerant and it takes around 48 hours to make ice blocks. Still there has been no up gradation in this industry. So we are attempting to improve the performance of ice plant by reducing energy consumption in different element of system, by applying different types of energy conservation instruments and techniques which reduce power consumption of factory. Time reduction give also benefit in power consumption. So we are attempting to modify the design of ice can by making rectangular groove at the bottom of ice can.We will check % reduction in time and by that the analysis of benefit in annual production cost.
