Abstracts: A systematic approach towards the optimization of the process parameters on the welding of aluminum alloy by Gas Metal Arc Welding. The quality of welding highly depends on the process parameters and their control during the same process, hence the optimization of these would result in a better and defect controlled weldment. The parameters like shielding gas flow, voltage, speed of feed wire play significant role during the process. In the current work, three factors three level central composite design have been carried out for different values of parameters for optimization on aluminum alloy 8011 by GMAW. The tensile specimen prepared as per the ASTM E8M-04 and tested on the universal tensile testing machine. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) have been used to develop the mathematical model for the tensile strength. The effect of the different parameters on the tensile strength has been evaluated. Microstructure examination of the welded component have been carried out. Results of the study indicate that the maximum tensile strength found in the welded joint is 95 % of the parent metal tensile strength.
