The electromagnetic piston motor is provided with the cylinder and the piston consists of a permit magnet attached to the piston head. The magnetization of the electromagnet generates a magnetic repulsion force to cause the piston to move in one direction and then cut off the supply to the electromagnet to transfer the piston in the opposite direction. This series of action is repeated to provide continuous reciprocal movement of the piston.

The main consideration in the design of an electromagnet is its magnet lifting power.
