ABSTRACT - We can define IoT as integrated part of future internet in which physical objects communicate with each other. Objects can be monitored and controlled through internet. IoT has the capability to make home and our life smarter. It can be implemented in different areas like smart cities ,agriculture, energy, health, home automation etc .. Security situation of IoT is serious. In this paper we presents an overview of protocols, architecture of Internet of Things, tools and different techniques used to build various applications that are used in Smart Home. This paper provides protocols, techniques, communication system, architecture and working of Internet of Things.

. Introduction
Internet of Things is network of objects like home devices, buildings etc, embedded with hardware ,software, sensors to exchange data. This is environment in which things and people communicate with each other to transfer data. It may also be called as internet of everything. Things can be person, animal, physical devices, everyday objects and things like gas valve, home lightening, air conditioner that are linked intelligently between things and people through internet. Anyone from anywhere at any time can have connectivity for anything with ip connectivity can accessing and controlling the devices .while data information transmission occurs, protection of data is main concern in internet of things. We are not sure that our connecting devices are secure pr not. Data flow must be free from any risk or danger. Security issues are main problems and research era in IoT.
The Internet of Things refers to the ever-growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address for internet connectivity and the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet-enabled devices and systems.

By Embedding short range mobile transceivers into a wide array of additional gadgets and everyday items, enabling new forms of communication between people and things and between themselves.

2. History
Idea of IoT come into existence by the invention of an electromagnetic telegraph that was created by Baron Schilling in Russia in 1832.
In 1833 Carl Fredrich Gauss and Wilhelm Weber invented their code to communicate over a distance of 1200m within , Germany.
In 1844 Samuel Morse sends the first Morse code public public telegraph message “WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT” from Washington.
In 1926 according to Nikola Tesela when wireless will be perfectly applied the whole earth will be converted into a huge brain ,which in fact is, all things being particles of a real and rhythmic, the instruments through which we shall be able to do this will be compared with our present telephone.
1942: Hedy Kiesler Markey and George Antheil introduced frequency hopping.
1946: Dick Tracy introduced the two way radio
1950: Alan Turing related the computing machinery and intelligence to people so they can learn new things .
1952: Norman Joseph woodland and Bernard Silver received first patent for a linear barcode.
1955: Edward O. Thorp devised the first wearable computer that was pocket sized analog device used to predict Roulette wheels.
1960: Morton Heilig received a patent for the first ever head mounted display. He featured a stereoscopic (3D) Television and true stereo sound.
1969: The first host to host message over ARPANET was sent.

1971: Wi-Fi protocol invented
1972: Electronic mail was invented.
1973: Mario Cardullo introduced to RFID tag
1974: Vint Cerf and Stanford gave specification of TCP/IP.
1981: Steve Mann developed a wearable personal computer wired to a camera and mounted to a helmet.
1982: TCP/IP was formalized. Networks were interconnected known as INTERNET.
1989: Tim Bernerslee proposed the World Wide Web.
1990: Olivetti Reasearch Laboratory developed infrared signals to communicate a person’s location.
In 1990 John Romkey created the first Internet device (Toaster) that could be turned ON and OFF over the internet. Toaster was connected to a computer with TCP/IP networking. Then it used an information base (SNMP) to turn the power ON.
1991: First wireless product released name was WaveLAN, for use in cashier system.
1991: first webpage created by Tim Berners. In 1999 INTERNET OF THINGS term coined by Kevin Asthon (Director of AUTO-ID center). It was expected to connect of devices .systems and services through protocols, domains and applications. First appliance of IoT was Coke machine (Cornegie) Mellon University).
1993: MOSAIC was released. It was web browser created By Marc Andreessen, Eric Bina
1994: Mik lamming and Mike unveiled invented “Forget Me Not” device that was wirelessly communicated and recorded interactions of other people and gadgets and stores the information in a database.
1995: Siemens launched GSM data module called M1 for M to M applications.
1998: Bluetooth was adopted.
1999: Kevin Ashton, David Brock, Dr. Daniel Engles and Sanjay Sarma Ashton coined the term “INTERNET OF THINGS” by center of AutoID (for automatic Identification).
2000: Smart fridge launched by L.G that was first connected to refrigerator.
2005: Massimo Banzi developed the Arduino, a single board microcontroller.
