OVERVIEW OF SYSTEM UNDER STUDY

The System as described will be operated by two categories of users: client and administrator. The system consists of basic components as shown in the fig2 and fig3 below. This Block diagram is made as per working model of the system from user perspective and the administrator point of view respectively.

1.3 ABOUT THE PROPOSED SYSTEM
1.3.1 AIM

Objective of the system is to develop complete and sustainable website for the country’s largest bank that help in dealing with the customers quickly and provide adequate information to the users.

1.3.2 SYSTEM OBJECTIVE

• Online Banking is the most convenient and powerful way to manage customer’s account.
• Online Banking is Real Time, giving you up-to-the-second details on customer’s account.
• It can be accessed anytime, from anywhere, giving you complete control over the customer’s finances.
• There are no queues to stand in, or turns to wait for. With Online Banking the customers are in control.
• System shall provide complete information of clients with the bank, maintaining their databases, searching for branches of bank as per their location, downloading of different utility forms and complaint registration and enquiry.

1.3.3 SCOPE

• System will support multi-user environment.
• System will be a fully automated system.
• System will provide concrete security features like assigning privileges to users of the system.
• System will maintain a secured database for all the users accessing online services.
• System will be capable of keeping track of all the detailed descriptions of the client and the whole details of services offered by the client organization.
• System will handle extremely large volumes of data (i.e. large database support) which is accessible round the clock.
• It will allow searching of the bank branches as per its location.
• It will allow downloading of the new account opening form and other account utility forms.
• System will also provide a complaint form to lodge complaints about banks services online as well as the service to enquire about the complaints
• It will also provide information about the various services available online.

1.5 METHOD USED FOR ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

Software Development organizations follow some process when developing a software product. A key component of software development process is the life cycle model on which it is based which significantly affects its cost. Methodology used for this project is as follows:

1.5.1 ITERATIVE ENHANCEMENT MODEL:

This model includes five phases each having a particular and a well-defined goal associated with it. The phases occur in the given order and do not overlap, but these can be conducted in several cycles. A usable product is released at the end of each cycle, with each release providing additional functionality.

Phases are as follows
a) REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS AND REQUIREMENT PHASE:

In this phase the exact requirements of the customer were understood and documented them properly. This activity is usually executed together with the customer, as the goal is to document all functions, performance and interfacing requirements for the software. The requirements here specify the “what” of a system and not the “how” of a system
b) DESIGN:

In this phase the requirement specification were transformed into a structure that is suitable for implementation. DFD’s and ER Diagram of the system were made according to the various databases and the functions of the system. Here overall software architecture is defined. This work is documented and known as software design description (SDD) document.
c) IMPLEMENTATION AND UNIT TESTING PHASE:

During this phase the design was implemented. The design was then made to run. If the SDD is complete, the implementation or coding phase proceeds smoothly, because all the information needed by the software developers is contained in the SDD.
d) INTEGRATION AND SYSTEM TESTING PHASE:

This is a very important phase. Effective testing contributes to the delivery of higher quality software products, more satisfied users, lower maintenance costs, and more accurate and reliable results. All the possible requirements were tested to give a high quality and reliable product.
e) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PHASE:

Software maintenance is a task that every development group has to face, when the software is delivered to customer’s site, installed and is operational. The time spent and effort required keeping the software operational after release is very significant.

1.6 DATA COLLECTION

Data collection is a very important phase in the development of an information system. To understand what user wants we have to understand what actually is there in his mind regarding the system he wants, how should it perform the job and how to effectively develop with the available tools. All the requirements are analyzed and the user is told what could have been better in this. All these details are collected and are taken down on a document called SRS which include all the details regarding the requirements of the customer. All the data which becomes helpful in the development of the system is collected through several methods like Internet, previous data available are among some.

• Data was collected by interacting with the various bank account holders. General information was gathered on how the bank deals with their requirements. Brainstorming session was performed between various friends. The main motive of doing this was to know the exact expectation of the customer from the bank.

1.6.1 INTERNET

1. All the information was collected from the Internet as par the part of the planning for the organization and was then framed into logical data. The requirement of the bank been taken care of in the software based upon the data collected by the bank through surveys and market reports.
2. The major site from where the data has been collected is www.ststebankofindia.com. The website contains all the information regarding its functions and services.
Internet was one of the main sources of data collection and a lot of useful data was available on the internet.

1.7 PROJECT PLANNING

1.7.1 GANTT CHART

A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. Some Gantt charts also show the dependency (i.e. precedence network) relationships between activities. Gantt charts can be used to show current schedule status

2.1 SYSTEM UNDER STUDY

• Branch Search: This allows the user to obtain information about the branch of the bank on the basis of the location selected by him/her.
• Complaint Registration and Enquiry: The user can register complaints about the various products and services of the bank. The system also provides the facility to enquire the status of the complaint whether they are pending or whether they have been dealt.
• Available Form Download: The user can download various utility forms such as new account opening form, internet banking form, complaint form etc.
• Bill Payment: The user can pay bills (MTNL, BSES etc.) online. For this the user has been provided with a login ID and password with which he can login and use the internet banking facility.
• Personal Information Updation: The user can login and update his/her information with the bank online.

2.2 USER IDENTIFICATION AND THEIR GOALS

There are two users of the system:
a) Client: These users are the account holders with the bank. They can use their login ID and password to login and use the Internet Banking facility to pay bills (for e.g. BSES, MTNL etc.) and update their personal information online. They can use various facilities provided by the website online such as searching for branches of bank according to the location of their liking, lodge and enquire complaints, gather knowledge on various other online services etc.

b) Administrator: They are responsible for site maintenance. They can login and update the site by uploading new forms, keep a check on complaints and update the complaint status etc.
