Mesh-based Broadband Home Network Solution: Setup and Experiments

INTRODUCTION
Networking issues such as
1. Device interoperability
2. Universal plug and play (UPnP)
3. Home gateway initiative (HGI)
Increasing availability of bandwidth in access networks allow for a full coverage in home through more complex infrastructure.
To over come disadvantage of network access rates especially with more deployment of Fiber To The Home (FTTH).
To support QoS assurance and user-friendliness.
To implement a specific WiFi handover algorithm.
Network element called Extenders which implement a path selection at layer 2 with a coverged multi-hop.
Path selection protocol evaluation are conducted to evaluate the performance.
Protocol description:
Ad-hoc wireless Distribution Service(AWDS)
Mobile Ad-hoc Network ( MANET)
Qos support:
Expected Transmission Count(ETX)metric
Predicts number of data transmissions required to send a packet over a link
Hardware and software configuration
1.CPU:VIA C7 1GHZ (mini 3 PCs)
2. MEMORY 1GB

USER MOBILITY: WiFi handover experiments
Every HO_period
If (RSSI<HO_threshold )
check APs cache table
if (cache too old)
Perform enhanced selective active scanning
update and associate best AP
send ARPING message
