Introduction to Surface Computing
Surface Computing is completely intuitive and liberating way to interact with digital content. It blurs the lines between the physical and the virtual worlds without using mouse and keyboard.
It is basically an idea of turning an ordinary surface into an interactive computer surface.
Microsoft Surface
The word “Surface” is derived from Surface computing.

Working of Components
Multi Touch Screen[/b
Basic components of multi TOUCH SCREEN i. touch screen sensor ii. Controller iii. software drivers
[b]Advantages

i Large surface area to view different windows and applications.
ii Data Manipulation - Selecting, moving, rotating and resizing (manipulating objects on the screen is similar to manipulating them in the manual world).
iii. Quick and easy to use.
iv. More Than One User –Several people can orient themselves on different sides of the surface to interact with an application simultaneously (Max 52 points of touch).
v. Object Recognition - Increased functionality aiding user in speed and ease of use.
vi. Time saving by eliminating many processes.
Challenges
i. Not portable and very expensive.
ii. Privacy - Open for many to view.
iii. Screen Visibility - Glare, finger prints/dirt and human interaction obscuring interface.
iv. Fatigue - Reaching across the table often can cause
the arms to ache.
