Introduction to Organic Semiconductor

What is an Organic semiconductor
Organic semiconductor is an organic material having properties of semiconductor.
Band gap is from 1.5 to 3 eV typically
What is the difference between polymer and Organic semiconductor.
Organic semiconductors are small molecules and low molecular weight where as polymers are long chain molecules as well as high molecular weight.

Advantages

Compared to their inorganic counterparts, organic materials have exhibited numerous advantages
(i) flexibility (ii) solubility (iii) compatibility with plastic substances and lower-cost of deposition process, such as spin coating, ink-jet printing, dip-coating, lower temperature of fabrication (60-120oC).
Another advantage is that there is no need of ultra high clean room. Laboratory atmosphere is enough for fabrication of organic electronic devices.

Why study Metal/Organic electronic interface

This Interface is one of the crucial Component of any organic electronic device(OED).
An important type of device, i.e., organic field-effect transistors(Organic Thin Film Transistors).
More recently, organic photovoltaic cells have shown some promise quantum efficiency.(Si=21% organic material(PCBM &P3HT ):7.8%)
Organic light emitting diode for flat panel display.
