AUTOMATIC METER READING USING GSM TECHNOLOGY

Introduction:
“GSM based AMR System” implements the emerging applications of the GSM technology. Using GSM networks, an AMR system has been proposed that will act as an embedded system which can monitor and acquire data locally using built-in input and output peripherals. The proposed system will remotely reads customer meters and then transfers the data into the billing system.
Scope:
The system specification shows the description of the function and the performance of system and the user. The scope of our project “GSM Based AMR” is immense. The future implications of the project are very great considering the amount of time and resources it saves. The project we have undertaken can be used as a reference or as a base for realizing a scheme to be implemented in EB for meter reading.
Objectives:
a. Automating the process of measurement through digital communication techniques.
b. To effectively receive and transmit data via GSM network
c. To eliminate the need of personnel to note the meter reading.
d. Reducing the workman ship and time wastage
Brief methodology:
This system consists of two module such as meter interfacing module and monitoring module. In meter interfacing module we have infra red encoder & decoder which obtains the basic data from the meter. This data is given as input to the microcontroller, data processing is done and displays the energy data in the LCD and correspondingly SMS is sent to the user defined mobile number which will enable them to pay the bill.
