Definition Of The Title

A freezer is a thermally insulated compartment which is at a subfreezing temperature and maintained for the rapid freezing and storing of perishable items, especially food. In Engineering / Mechanical Engineering also called deepfreeze a device that freezes or chills, esp. an insulated cold-storage cabinet for long-term storage of perishable foodstuffs. It is a former name for a refrigerator.

For home application, probably have a refrigerator/freezer combination unit. Whether you have a side-by-side fridge/freezer appliance, the kind with the freezer on top, or one with the freezer on the bottom, the differences are few. Each freezer is a single unit, so they all use the same machinery described earlier in the pursuit of vapor compression. About the only difference is energy efficiency. The bottom mount uses the least amount of power because the compressor is on the bottom, doesn't have to push vapor very far. On the side-by-side or upright-freezer styles, the compressor has to force refrigerant through a tube to reach the freezer compartment.

The type of freezer that I going to build is chest freezer. This type of freezer cools the air within the freezer through its walls, and there is minimal air movement within the enclosed air space. Thus, high temperature gradients are likely inside this type of freezer. Chest freezers is much more simpler and do a better job than upright freezers in keeping food cold adequately for 24 hours even if the power fails.


Scope Of The Title

The main idea of this project is to design a simple compressor based food stuff storage system. There are a lot of possibities and expected outcomes. The freezer door can be designed as handle type door or top opening glass lid. A top opening glass lid design can minimize air movement within the enclosed air space but requires more working to complete the product. The project also shows the use of compressor in practical shape with voltmeter, ampere meter at display. A thermostat device will be installed externally or internally to indicate the temperature inside the freezer.

I will be using semi-conductor material to build the inner container of the freezer. To increase the efficiency of the freezer, the compressor will be located on the right bottom corner to reduce the use of power and it is connecting to the cooler fan, evaporator coils and condenser coils. The compressor will squeeze the vapor's particles, which heats it up and converts it into a high-pressure state.


Work To Be Carried Out

First, I draw out a Conceptual Model for a model. I try doing my research on freezer and try to understand the concept and how it work. Try find out what is the best design to bring out the largest efficiency. After that, I will start to design my own project. An idea product will be sketch in a A4 size paper. Every single detail or design on my project will carries its own function, that’s why a proper design draft before starting a project is important.

Before build my freezer, I will purchase some suitable materials and parts according to what am I going to design. After purchase parts, I will start build the main body of freezer. As a main body, an inner container of the freezer must be semi-conductor. It will be layers of wall of wall to separate the condenser coils and evaporator coils. Handle type door or top opening glass lid will be choose for opening system due to final decision after meeting material supplier.
