INTRODUCTION

This project is used in case of emergency and dangerous situations. At that time we have to alert the doctor immediately. For this we are using a Zigbee based network For doctor to patient communication in the hospital and GSM network to communicate and indicate the status of the patient through SMS.
Zigbee is a low data rate, two-way standard for home automation and data networks. The standard specification for up to 254 nodes including one master, managed from a single remote control. Zigbee also allows for dial-in access via the internet for automation control.
GSM considered as second generation (2G) of mobile phone system. It is far more advance from first generation (1G) which is analog system.GSM differs from its predecessors in that both signaling and speech channel are digital. It ia also that data communication was easy to build into the system. And, GSM standard also already used wide at the world.
In this we check the patient’s health condition by monitoring the heart beat through sensors. If there is any change in the any of the temperature then it considers as a malfunction of the heart and then it transmits the pulse count with the patients ID to the doctor in the hospital and at the same to it sends a sms to a fixed number in the microcontroller

The major components of this project are Micro Controller(AT89C51), Heartbeat sensor, ZIGBEE Module, GSM Module.
POWER SUPPLY
The entire project needs power for its operation. However, from the study of this project it comes to know that we supposed to design 5v and 12v dc power supply. So by utilizing the following power supply components required power has been gained.
• Step down transformer,
• Rectifier unit
• Filter
• Regulator unit

MICRO CONTROLLER

The major heart of this project is AT89C51 micro controller. It is a low power, high performance CMOS 8 bit micro computer with 4K bytes of flash programmable and erasable read only memory (EPROM).
AT89C51 is a powerful micro computer which provides a highly flexible and cost effective solution to many embedded control applications.

HEART BEAT SENSOR

The heart beat sensor is designed to give digital output of heart beat when a finger is place inside it. When the heart detector is working, the top most led flashes in unison with each heart beat. This digital output can be connected to micro controller directly to measure Beats Per Minute (BPM) rate. It works principle of light modulation by blood flow through finger at each pulse.

TEMPERATURE SENSOR

The temperature sensor is designed to give the analog output which is then given to the ADC to get digital output. This output is given to the microcontroller . The output from this sensor is the room temperature measured in centigrades.

GSM MODULE

GSM stands for Global system for mobile communication. It is a globally accepted standard for digital cellular communication. The GSM modem basically consists
• SIM card holder to hold the activated SIM card for sending and receiving SMS.
• 5v ac power supply header to which 5v ac adapter is connected.
• Power led which gives indication of modem status that is on or off.
• 9 pin female to which the GSM antenna is connected.

ZIGBEE MODULE

ZIGBEE and modules were engineered meet ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 standards and support the unique needs of low-cost, low-power wireless sensor networks. The modules require minimal power and provide reliable delivery of critical data between devices. The modules operate within the ISM 2.4 GHz frequency band and are pin-for-pin compatible with each other.
