HOLOGRAPHIC ENVIRONMENTS -and Spectral Imagining

[attachment=22793]

Introduction

Holographic environments are simulated environments that will allow you to interact with people that located thousands of miles away.
This technology is also called as Tele-immersion.
Employees from New York, Paris, London, Bangalore will be able to meet in a Tele-immersive environment and shake hands with holographic images of their co-workers

What is holography

“Lensless Photography”
Holography is a technique that allows the light scattered from an object to be recorded and later reconstructed so that when an imaging system (a camera or an eye) is placed in the reconstructed beam, an image of the object will be seen even when the object is no longer present.

How is tele-immersion different from Video-conferencing ?

Tele immersion takes video conferencing to the next level. Where videoconferencing delivers flat images to a screen, tele-immersion recreates an entire remote environment.
"The person is projected life-size in 3D around you.” Also with tele-immersion people cannot walk out of the view of camera, in fact you can peer around their place from different angles just like a window in front of you.

History Of Tele-immersion

Tele Immersion was first invented and developed by Jaron Lanier (often titled “father of virtual reality)
He first developed a system called RB2 which made virtual reality travel long distances. Although it only transferred graphics, it was able to transfer the motions of people conveying a sense of reality.
Tele-immersion takes virtual reality to the next level.

There are several steps in constructing a holographic environment:
The computer recognizes the presence and movements of people and objects.
The computer tracks those images.
The computer projects those images on a stereo –immersive surface.
Holographic environments will be generated by computers with computing speeds hundred times faster than the current PC’s.

How the 3-d image being created

In order to see the three-dimensional image, the screen cannot be biased towards any viewpoint because the users frequently move around and change their perspective, therefore many cameras must be placed around each person.
These cameras each provide a different view of the person, and by determining the angle by which each camera sees each characteristic, algorithms can place together a three-dimensional image.

Conclusion

Holographic Technology and Spectral Imagining has endless applications, as far as the human mind can imagine.
These technologies are indeed available and getting more robust in abilities each year.
Holographic Technologies are not just about art or business communication, they are about safety, security, education, planning and the strength of our civilization here and beyond.
